This is the first post in what I hope is not only the beginning of a running commentary on my journey to creating a better life for my family and I, but also a source of accountability to help me plan, set, implement and achieve a series of goals with happiness and financial freedom as the destination.
At the time of writing this post I am husband to an amazing wife, full time stepfather to a ten and five year old daughter and son, and a father to a two year old daughter. We live in Sydney Australia and collectively are the not-so-proud owners of over $50,000 in consumer debt – with me being overwhelmingly responsible for the lions share. This is unsurprisingly the source of most of our household stress and I have spent far too long with my head buried in the sand, swimming in interest and waiting for some magical day to come along where the problem will resolve itself. I have finally come to see that that magical day will never come and so, like many bloggers before me, I will be sharing the story of how I got myself into this situation and the sacrifices I will undoubtedly have to make to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
It’s not all doom and gloom though… with these sacrifices also comes great opportunities to focus on quality time with my family and exploring ways of becoming a happier, healthier humans. If you have any tips, resources, words of wisdom, or even simple encouragement to help us in our journey, please reach out and hopefully together we can reach my goal of making a “better us”.
“We are the sum total of our experiences. Those experiences – be they positive or negative – make us the person we are, at any given point in our lives. And, like a flowing river, those same experiences, and those yet to come, continue to influence and reshape the person we are, and the person we become. None of us are the same as we were yesterday, nor will be tomorrow. –B.J Neblett”
